Artificial General Intelligence
A theoretical, future form of AI that is as smart as, or smarter than, a human across every possible subject.
In Plain English
Today's AI is narrow; it can write a poem or play chess, but it cannot tie a shoe or invent a new science. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is the holy grail of tech companies: a single machine that can learn and do anything a human brain can do. AGI does not exist yet, but experts fiercely debate whether it will arrive in a few years or a few decades, and whether it will save humanity or destroy it.
Real-World Example
A future AI system that can invent a cure for a disease, write a bestselling novel, and manage a city's power grid all at once.
